Kalamazoo had experienced a shooting incident in which several people were shot, and a fundraiser was taking place in order to help with those that were shot, or for their families affected by the shootings. The fundraiser was extremely important to the community, and they greatly wanted it to succeed for the sake of all of those involved.
They also believed that the fundraiser would make the community stronger as a whole, because it proves that the community is able to come together in times of need, and also prove that in the future if these kinds of things ever happen, the community will be able to support itself. Kalamazoo had not experienced such a tragedy in a long time
